Gemma’s extensive experience in transportation has seen her successfully deliver on a range of key communication milestones across the lifecycle of a scheme. From design to construction, she has led on consultations, preferred route announcements and pre-construction events for many complex Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects. Wider than this she has also led integral communication and engagement activity for SMART motorway schemes, high-risk operational work and Highways Act projects. Her vast knowledge of the industry is equally matched with an enthusiasm to communicate and engage creatively whilst delivering successful outcomes.

Experience

Chartered in Public Relations, Gemma is a qualified communications professional with over 12 years’ experience within the transport and highways industry. Having previously worked for National Highways, as both a Regional Communication Manager and Business Manager for their Major Projects Teams. Gemma also worked for Surrey County Council within their Highways sector and more recently as Senior Comms Consultant at Atkins.

With a portfolio that extends across many complex schemes such as the M25 J10/A3Wisley interchange delivering their non-statutory, and statutory consultation, pre-construction public information events and Secretary of State DCO delays. Previous work has also seen Gemma manage a programme of operational schemes within the East of England and the A2 Bean & Ebbsfleet to deliver construction communications for a high-risk road closure.

Gemma leads teams to deliver effective communication strategies by combining both her knowledge and experience with a data led approach. Allowing her to ensure communication and engagement is complaint, effective and personalised to the needs of every project, recognizing that every scheme is different. Translating complex issues into digestible, easy to understand information. Gemma can ensure stakeholders feel listened to, informed and involved throughout the lifecycle of a scheme. Embedding a multi-channel approach that encourages 2-way dialogue.

Her creative flair to deliver engaging and innovative communication has seen her become shortlisted for Product Innovation of the Year as part of the 2021 British Construction Industry awards. Following Gemma’s continuous strive to deliver accessible and inclusive content that remains engaging and effective for its audience.
